10th Annual Sequim Lavender Festival™ selects Iris Edey as the 2006 Poster Artist!
Iris Edey’s watercolor “A Decade of Lavender” has been chosen for the 10th Annual Sequim Lavender Festival™ Poster Art. The festival in Sequim, Lavender Capital of North America, takes place in the Sequim-Dungeness valley on Friday, July 14 - Sunday, July 16, 2006.
Iris has been a resident of Sequim for more than 15 years, but her love of and talent for art began much earlier. Iris, born in England into a military family, showed an apptitude for art early on, but war and disruption forced her to pursue other things. An apprenticeship as a seamstress at a prestegious London fashion house taught Iris fine sewing, work ehtic, and an understanding of color.
After moving to the United States in 1974, Iris was finally able to experiment with art. After trying several mediums, Iris settled on watercolors to create her flowers. Recently, Iris has earned a inclusion in a european book representing a small group of international watercolor artists and their flower painting techniques. Festival goers will recognize her blooms from her art and cards available at the street fair. Posters, t-shirts, and other items with Iris Edey’s original art will be available at the festival. Iris will be availabel to sign posters at her treet fair booth.
At the Festival, the eight Farms on Tour open their fields to visitors, each offering lavender-centered activities, demonstrations, music, food, and more. Admission to the Farms on Tour is $10, with no charge for children 12 and under. The Street Fair in downtown Sequim offers more than 150 craftspeople and vendors of lavender, musical entertainment, great foods and wine tasting. There is no admission charge to the street fair. Free parking is available in Sequim and at each of the farms and a free shuttle bus service connects the entire festival
