“Bloomin” Unbeatable “Weekend Getaway”
BAINBRIDGE ISLAND & SEQUIM, Wa. (June 21, 2006) - The Olympic Peninsula is bursting with spectacular gardens and budding lavender, all of which are expected to peak July 14 –16 just in time for Bainbridge Island’s 18th Annual Bainbridge in Bloom Garden Tour and the 10th Annual Sequim Lavender Festival.
To celebrate this rare opportunity to enjoy both events over the same weekend and to encourage garden, lavender and outdoor lovers to make the West Sound and Olympic Peninsula their destinations Friday through Sunday, July 14 - 16, the Sequim Lavender Festival and Bainbridge In Bloom have partnered to offer reduced price tickets to both events.
“Weekend Getaway” Special tickets for Bainbridge In Bloom are $25 for adults and $12 for children. Regular ticket prices are $30/adults and $15/children. Tickets for the Lavender Festival are $8 for adults and children 12 and under are admitted free. The regular adult ticket price is $10.

The Sequim Lavender Festival is responsible for the development of the regions lavender industry and the designation of Sequim as the Lavender Capital of North America. This year eight farms throughout the Sequim-Dungeness valley will open their fields and hearts to offer visitors a variety of lavender-centered activities, including demonstrations, agricultural history, workshops, horticultural programs and the opportunity to spend time in the fields. Visitors can pick lavender for bouquets directly from the fields and learn how the herb is grown, harvested, and turned into many products.
A highlight of the Lavender Festival is the Street Fair located in downtown Sequim. This year more than 150 craftspeople, lavender vendors, and other Olympic Peninsula-based specialties will be offered at the site. Other Street Fair highlights include live musical entertainment, delicious local foods and Olympic Peninsula wine tasting.
Bainbridge In Bloom, the Northwest’s premiere garden tour, this year showcases a variety of gardens some of which set trends in design and plant materials while others demonstrate beautiful gardens come in all shapes, sizes, and even containers and can be created by anyone, novices and experts alike. The garden tour is open 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, July 15th & 16th.
Highlights of the seven garden tour include free lectures by Ciscoe Morris and renowned author and garden designer Lucy Hardiman; a Festival/Hub offering an array of art, plants, merchandise, refreshments and container gardening demonstrations; in-garden demonstrations of sustainable garden practices; and, free narrated tour shuttles. Proceeds from Bainbridge In Bloom benefit Bainbridge Island Arts & Humanities Council.
