Festival to Spotlight Lavender’s “Gastronomic Goodness” Culinary Showcase Features Chefs, Cooking Demonstrations and Six-Course Celebrate Lavender Dinner
Food will be a focus of the Sequim Lavender Festival, Friday, July 16 - Sunday, July 20, 2010, with sweet and savory lavender-infused delights available at all six lavender Farms on Tour and at the downtown Street Fair featuring 17 restaurants. On Sunday, July 18 the Farms on Tour will host a special Culinary Program with top local chefs demonstrating lavender’s food enhancing properties. The day will end with a six-course “Lavender Celebration Dinner” at the John Wayne Marina, which is open to the public. More
The Celebrate Lavender Dinner officially closes the Sequim Lavender Festival on Sunday July 18, 2010 with a six course dinner prepared by local chefs Dave Long and Steve McNabb, of Oven Spoonful. The evening begins at 7pm where our guests will enjoy the beautiful waterside views at the John Wayne Marina while being entertained by harpist Ingrid Larson-Alexander, and tasting Olympic Cellas Me’lange Nouveau, a local lavender wine. The menu will celebrate the lavender season with a lavish dinner featuring the lavender of the Sequim Lavender Growers Association and great northwest and local food. The dinner is sponsored by the Sequim Gazette and Olympic Cellars Winery.

Sequim Lavender Festival Fun on the Field
Fun on the Field is the Sequim Lavender Festival’s annual community showcase featuring twenty local nonprofit organizations with hands-on activities and demonstrations for the entire family to enjoy. The program includes: community stage, daily sheep herding demonstrations, pony rides, U.S. Customs dog search demonstration, a classic car show, food, crafts, and more. Family food includes hot dogs, salmon jerky, snow-cones, and nachos. The American Red Cross will be operating a first aid station and one of four sets of our conveniently located sani-kans (very important!) is on the field. Fun on the Field runs Friday- Saturday 9a.m. to 7p.m., and Sunday 9a.m. to 6p.m. More
Sequim Lavender Festival announces 2010 Farms on Tour
Six lavender and herb farms will be featured on the Farms on Tour portion of the 2010 Sequim Lavender Festival. Each farm is distinctive and reflects the vision of its owner. During the Festival, farmers will share their techniques for cultivating, harvesting, drying and using lavender. Author Kathy Gehrt cooks up favorite recipes at Olympic Lavender Farm
If you are looking for easy, yet unique recipes using lavender, look no further than Olympic Lavender Farm where culinary commentator and author Kathy Gehrt will give Sequim Lavender Festival visitors tips on cooking with the purple herb. Gehrt, author of her new book, “Discover Cooking with Lavender,” will demonstrate favorite recipes at 12:30 p.m., Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the Festival. She will show how to use lavender on a variety of foods, including chicken, fish, vegetables and baked goods. Sunday’s recipe is one of her favorites, grilled pear crostini. More

Be part of something big and join us for the most fun you will have all summer. Volunteer for the Sequim Lavender Festival, July 17-19, 2009. New this year, an on-line application may be filled out at the festival website, www.lavenderfestival.com. Volunteers can input their information and preferences on the new applications, or request a paper application be mailed to them.

Peninsula artist Carol Janda creates 14th Annual Sequim Lavender Festival poster
Eight years ago, the poster selected for the annual Sequim Lavender Festival turned out to be one of the most popular and one of the best sellers. That particular poster, painted by North Olympic Peninsula artist Carol Janda, inspired the Sequim Lavender Festival committee to commission Janda to create a new piece for the 2010 festival. Janda decided on a watercolor showing a person cutting lavender in a field of the plants. More
Sequim Lavender Festival garners state awards
The Sequim Lavender Festival recently won several awards at the Washington Festivals & Events Association’s Summit Awards Competition.
Each year the WFEA honors member organizations for the marketing, promotion and special program achievements in the Summit Awards Competition. Festivals throughout the state are eligible for gold, silver and bronze medals, which are announced at the annual conference each March. More
